Scaling/Cleaning and Polishing

Professional cleaning that removes stains, plaque and tartar for healthier gums.

What is it?

Even with good brushing, plaque hardens into tartar (calculus) that a toothbrush can't remove. Tartar irritates the gums and causes bleeding, bad breath and, over time, gum disease and loose teeth. Scaling removes tartar from above and just below the gumline, and polishing smooths the teeth and removes surface stain.

Do you need it?

You may benefit if you notice:

  • Your gums bleed when you brush or floss
  • Bad breath that doesn’t go away
  • Yellow or brown deposits near the gumline
  • Stains from tea or coffee or tobacco
  • It has been more than a year since your last cleaning

Step by step

What happens during treatment

  1. 1

    Gum check

We examine your gums and measure any pockets around the teeth

  2. 2

    Scaling

An ultrasonic scaler gently removes the tartar.

  3. 3

    Polishing

Removes stains and smoothness the tooth surfaces so plaque builds up more slowly
